Why did early photographers develop techniques to create color in photography?

Photographers developed new techniques to create color photography because they wanted to continue to improve their images by adding more color or improving the color that already existed on the image. Also they created these techniques to try to please the people with there images, which was rather hard because they expected the best images from these photographers in color.

What was one problem experienced by early experimenters of color photography?

What kind of light is created when Red, Green & Blue are mixed together?

One of the problems the photographers faced was that they could not keep the color images without after a while the colors going black. The light that the colors Red, Green and Blue make are called Prismed Solar Spectrum.

What does it mean when the author says that the only way to look at Lumiere's color photo was "...by projection or through a transmitted light source"?

Describe Alfred Steiglitz's attitude toward Lumiere's color photography?

It means that the way Lumiere created his photo was like a transperacy in which he had to have light to see the image clearly, like if it was being projected. Alfred Steiglitz's thought this process was and expensive one for the hard working people. Also he said that the colors would bunch up into clots showing this wasn't a sure process.

When did the first Polaroid instant color photo go on sale?

Make an image search in google for "1970's Polaroid Instant Color Photos" Look at some of the photos you find... What app do the photos remind you of?

The first polaroid camera went on sale in november of 1948.

The images that appear on google look like they have been edited in  a photo editing app like it is used today where we fix the colors and appearance of the images. One app is "BeFunky Photo Editor."

If you haven't already done so, take this link to sign up for "Powerful Portraits with Hip Hop's Premier Portrait Photographer."
Now, look over the information about the online course. Write about what you expect to do for this course

For this course I expect to take images of the interesting things we see in our world, I believe we will be pushed to shoot images that show what it really means not only what we see. I also believe this course will make us become much better photographers.

1/24/13

Online instructor, Jonathan Mannion "Powerful Portraits with Hip Hop's Premier Portrait Photographer" has posted a new discussion Take this Link. Also, he has posted a list of Photographers Who Inspire Me.

Take the YouTube link from the discussion notification and watch what he has to say. When you are done interacting, write a reflection in your journal about his discussions or the list of photographers (see above).

The photographers that inspire Jonathan are all very similar because they all take images of people such as he does with the Hip Hop artists. Also the people who inspire him do not take images that do not tell the viewer something.

1/29/13

Post your "Mood Board" on SkillShare and your wix if you haven't already. Write about Photographers Who Inspire Me in your journal if you haven't already.

The photographers all who inspire Jonathan all take very personal or self portrait type images of people. I believe this is why he takes images the way he does of the Artists he shoots for because of the photographers he admires. They try to make it seem like you know that artist and also make you feel lik you are there.

You have 7 days (Monday 2/4) until printed images are due for the Albuquerque Metro Art Show. You could work on a new image for the show. Describe one image you could create this week.

An image i could create this week would be one of my feelings or how I feel that I want the people to know. I think this would be an image that would be interesting because photography is all about the person who is shooting and his reasons to shoot a subject. This would show the meaning of photography for me and also what I feel.

2/4/13

You have been learning to create motion in photography using  the camera's shutter speed to control exposure times. Write about one of the following links.  Take this link to learn how to capture motion in water. Take this link to learn how to make light graffiti.
The light graffiti technique is something that is very complex and will probably take time to complete because of the skills that are needed to become an exert at it. When finished this technique looks great and attracts the attention of many photographers especially interested in light photography.

2/7/13

Next week we will create light graffiti in the black box theater. For this journal entry, search for 2 images of light graffiti online. Post the images in your journal and describe how you think they were created.

I believe this images were created with some light effect that allows you too glow or make the images appear when there is a long shutter speed that captures the movements of the light.

2/12/13

How did the Light Graffiti shoot go? Did you get the results you expected or were you surprised, disappointed. Do you know what happened and why?

The shoot went great as it was very interesting and not difficult at all as we were able to capture some good shots. I was surprised and pleased at what happend with the light effects. Lastly the light is the only thing going in to the aperture causing it to appear and this is why this affect appears.

2/19/13

In our next unit, you will be research a social issue that is important to you AND create a series of photos about this issue. In this journal entry, write about an issue that is important to you - this is your chance to give input into our next unit on social issues & change.

One of the social issues I have is the immigration laws and reform, I believe that people with out documents should be able to have a license and be able to obtain work as well. Lastly I believe that these people are really hard working and deserve the same as ther people.

2/26/13

Take this link to see photos by Stephen Shames. Many of his photos focus on social issues. Write about what issues you think concern Stephen Shames.

The issues I think concern Stephen Shames is that of child abuse and abuse overall. Also he has images of kids that are very scared and and skinny that look like they suffer starvation. These 2 types of images are the ones I saw the most within his collection of images because they are big issues in the world today.

3/1/13

We have a visitor from UNM today. Ms. Jenna Kuiper will present images by photographer Alec Soth. After her presentation and discussion, write about how this relates to the social issues project.

This relates to the social issues project because immigration is a big problem that the whole country is relating too. Also many of the people in the United States are hispanic or latin which shows that this affects many of the people from this country. Lastly if something is not done because of this there could end up to be bigger problems then what already exists.

3/5/12

Take this link to see photography from the FSA (Farm Security Administration) during the drought of the 1930's. Write in your journal about the ONE image that has the most impact - the kind of image that could be "the center of the story."

The image that I believe can be the center of the story is the one that was shot by Marion Post Wolcott. I believe this because it shows that background in where they live and also how they are surrounded of. This image is also strong because the character in the shot is a women.

3/18/13

This week is devoted (mostly) to SBA testing. Why is this test important for you and our school?

This test is important to me because this is a required test that I have to pass so that I can graduate, it also shows me where my academic skills are  at. This test is important to the school because it shows us how we do as a school and also how we are being taught compared to some of the other school in the city and the whole state of New Mexico.

3/22/13

You've finished your research essay and your first image (hopefully) . In three or more sentences, brainstorm your ideas for the rest of your photo series. Has your original idea changed? What image could you take this weekend?

My image has not changed because Alcohol is bad and especially when horrible incidents occur because of the drug. I think still that laws need to crackdown on this drinking and driving issue because it is affecting not only the individual him self but the families around them.

3/26/13

Did you take any photos for your Social Issues Project over the weekend? If so, post them to your Journal and describe how you feel about them. If not, then write about what you could have photographed this weekend.

I could have taken images of beer cans or alcohol bottles that are broken on streets and things of that sort because it is what occurs when alcohol is consumed, as people get hurt and families get broken. Also I could have shot a beer can inside a car which is damaged, showing what occurs when you drink and drive which is a horrible accident.

3/28/13

Take the following links to see photographers Alec Soth & David Taylor. You will be tested on the following two questions:

1. In your own words, describe the subject of David Taylor's photo essay "Working the Line"

2. In your own words, describe the social issue that inspired Alec Soth in "A Place to Disappear"

David Taylor's subject of his essay is to show how people cross the border by putting himself in the position as if he was crossing. Also he shows lots of the ways patrol use to stop the people trying to come in to the country illegally.

The social issue that lead Alec Soth to write his essay is money because people forget how to live without it. Also just wanting to get away from society is what drove Soth and his idea.

4/2/13

We will be printing in the darkroom today with image taken using a Pin Hole camera. What do you expect to happen?

What I expect to happen is the light that comes through the hole will reflect on the camera paper which will have captured an image. With this being done when put into the chemicals and such the image will process and then come out of what was taken. The key of this project is the light and how much light you let in.

4/16/13

After yesterday's bombing, I remembered a poem by Lucille Clifton. Read it and write about how a poem can say something more than what the author originally intended.

I think what the author originally intended was to prevent any harm to people, I think she means what can her or anyone reading as individual can do to prevent bad things from happening.Lastly it shows how even the slightest want of changing can help prevent a horrible accident like the one that occured in Boston.

4/18/13

We will talk about personification today. First read a quote and then a poem by Lucille Clifton. How does the poem "personify" leaves?

The way the author personifiys leaves is the way in which he says the leaves believe. This shows how a thing that does not live has human characteristics because as we know leaves are not something living like a human so they cannot really believe like us humans do.

The ground ball tickling my way as my hands clench together, the ball spinning my hand then releases towards the ball. I feel the grass grasp my hand, then later feel dirt kicking up. I react to slightly open my fingers which will receive the ball slowly to stop the ball. The ball rolls into my hand as i feel it stop in my palm feeling the seems spinning. I pick up my hand to see a ball laying there. my hand closes and rises to release a force on the ball to get the throw and create an out.

Photographer Karen Kuehn will be speaking hear at Atrisco on Thursday for the Art Academy's Culture Day during 4th period. Check out her website and write in your journal about what you find.

What I found in her photography is that she takes meaningful images of person with surgery. These people suffer with disabilities. Lastly she takes many images with people that are with other people showing compassion and being affectionate if it is with a couple or just a family.

4/24/13

Photographer Karen Kuehn spoke here at Atrisco on Thursday for the Art Academy's Culture Day. Check out a preview of her book about Burning Man and write in your journal about what you find.

What I found in this was that Karen Kuehn takes pictures that look old sort of giving it an effect that makes the picture look good. Also I think that the way she place the people in her images next to props that say words or represent something give a meaning to her photos and also shows what type of images she likes shooting.

4/30/13

Film maker Busby Berkeley made large intricate scene using bodies to create design and pattern. Check this collection of images of his work. On a smaller scale, how could we (as a class) create something like this with our hands?

We can all put our hands together and then spread them in one image and in the next close them causing a type of pattern. Also some of us can have our hands open and the rest can have them closed causing the image to look different.
